Accreditation Procedure

Stage One

The applicant sends six copies of a completed form and C.V for the committee's consideration. If the Candidate is considered to be eligible they will be invited to proceed to Stage Two.

Stage Two

  1. The applicant makes a full application. Six copies should be sent to the Accreditation Committee.

    The application consists of:

    1. A case study (supervised by a psychoanalytic supervisor) to show effective use of psychoanalytic theories in clinical work, including illustration of this in sessions (about three thousand words).
    2. A professional development statement of 2,000-3,000 words to include:
      • A statement about the evolution of practice and the theoretical models informing it, demonstrating psychoanalytic concepts in the work.
      • At least two clinical vignettes separate from and in addition to the clinical paper. (about 500 words each.)
  2. The applicant will ask two persons, of whom one must be their most recent supervisor, to provide professional references and send them to the Accreditation Committee. The applicant will provide the referees with a copy of the FiP Ltd Guidance for Referees, which is included in the pack. (At least one reference must be received by the committee before the candidate can be interviewed.)

  3. The applicant will be invited for interview with two assessors appointed by the Accreditation Committee who will discuss the application and will report to the FiP Ltd accreditation committee.

  4. The decision on whether to award formal accreditation will be reached by the Accreditation Committee, who will take into account all the information supplied to them. The decision of the Accreditation Committee will be final.

    (The only grounds for appeal against the decision of the Accreditation Committee is failure of the committee to follow the FIP Ltd Accreditation procedure.)

  5. Recommendations for suitable further training, psychotherapy and/or supervision may be made by the Accreditation Committee in those cases where applicants do not fulfil all the criteria.

  6. Costs for applications for Accreditation are:

    • Stage One Registration fee: £25
    • If application proceeds to Stage Two a further fee of £175 will be required.
    • Application fees are not refundable.

ALL DOCUMENTS WILL BE TREATED IN THE UTMOST CONFIDENCE AND SHREDDED ONCE A DECISION HAS BEEN MADE.
