About the Forum for Independent Psychotherapists

The Forum for Independent Psychotherapists Ltd is a member organisation of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy, aligned to the Council for Psychoanalytic and Jungian Analysts (CPJA) college of UKCP.

FiP Ltd came into being in early 1997 to meet the desire for a non-aligned, pluralistic, psychoanalytic organisation, and has attracted members from across the country and abroad. The organisation’s inception reflected a desire to offer members the opportunity to meet and to collaborate in the interests of maintaining and developing their professional thinking and practice. FiP is committed to a critical evaluation of theoretical difference and provides a forum where psychoanalytic psychotherapists of different orientations can meet to examine clinical and theoretical issues. FiP organises regular CPD events which are open to members and non-members.

FiP is a listing organisational member of CPJA and in that capacity acts to support and oversee its members’ CPJA accreditation and registration with UKCP. FiP supports critical professional compliance issues in respect of its members and seeks to offer them information and advice regarding the operation of their UKCP registration. FiP accepts membership applications from practitioners accredited to CPJA. It is an organisation run by its members on behalf of its members and particularly welcomes members willing to participate in membership activities and contribute to the operation of its membership and oversight activities.
