Complaints in respect of the Clinical practice of FiP members

As a membership organisation the Forum for Independent Psychotherapists (FiP) offers support and guidance to members who are subject to a complaint from the public. Support for members is aligned to FiP’s values and policies and with the UKCP Code of Ethics and Professional Practice (2019).

Individuals who wish to make a complaint or raise a concern about a FiP member therapist in respect of their clinical practice should follow one of the two routes set out below depending on whether their therapist is a full member registered with the UK Council of Psychotherapists or is an associate member registered with another recognised professional body.

  1. FiP members who are registered with the UK Council of Psychotherapists (UKCP)

All full members of FiP are accredited by and registered with UKCP. In order to ensure the complete independence of complaints processing, FiP avails itself of UKCP’s complaints process in respect of complaints regarding professional practice.

Individuals who are concerned or wish to complain about their clinical experience with a UKCP registered practitioner should follow this link to the UKCP complaints procedure.

  2. FiP members who are not registered with UK Council of Psychotherapists (UKCP)

FiP offers Associate Member status to clinical practitioners who are accredited by and registered with other UK based registering bodies, i.e. The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC), The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BAPC) and The Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP).

Individuals who are concerned or wish to complain about their clinical experience with a non UKCP registered practitioner should follow the complaints procedure of the relevant registering body.

If you are not sure which of the above applies in respect of the member therapist about whom you wish to complain, you can contact FiP’s administrator for information (administrator@fip.org.uk).
